Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted celebrates all clear from throat cancer

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted revealed that he underwent treatment for throat cancer in May 2025 after it was discovered in his tonsil area. The cancer was caught early and removed through laser surgery, with subsequent tests confirming he was cancer-free. Newsted has since made changes to his lifestyle, including getting more rest and giving up alcohol and marijuana. GHOST won the "Best Hard Rock/Metal" award at the Swedish Grammis awards for their album "Skeletá". Tobias Forge and his songwriting team accepted the award, beating out other nominees like SABATON and THE HAUNTED. GHOST was presented the award by Joey Tempest of EUROPE and was nominated in six categories at the awards. "Skeletá" reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in May 2025, marking GHOST's fifth Top 10 album. The band's "Skeletour" world tour included North American and European legs in 2025 and 2026.

ROLLING STONES: Teasing Ends Tuesday

The Rolling Stones continue to tease their new and 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, which will be released in June. They will officially announce details on Tuesday at noon ET along with another song, and, "Rough and Twisted," which they released last month. On Friday, they posted a short video on their socials of a crumpled piece of paper being opened to unveil their iconic lips and tongue logo, which then gives way to a slightly altered version of the logo with writing behind it where you can make out the album title. A short snippet of music accompanies the clip, which sounds similar to "Rock and a Hard Place" off their 1989 album, Steel Wheels. and Ronnie Wood each revealed a third of the album cover, which, when pieced together, is a caricature of their three faces. That was followed today (Sunday) by a video on the band's

These latest clues follow previous ones that included the album title in different languages on billboards and posters around the world, along with short video clips of them in the studio. Those were preceded by the album's first track, "Rough and Twisted," being released under their alias, The Cockroaches, last month in independent record shops as a "white label" vinyl pressing. Foreign Tongues, which is a lyric from the "Rough and Twisted" -- “Why don’t you teach me/ Teach me all those foreign tongues?” -- \ contains songs recorded last year along with tracks left over from their previous album, 2023's Hackney Diamonds.

If you didn't get the Record Store Day release of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 1978 Boston concert, Live at the Paradise Rock Club, on splatter vinyl, fear not. Petty's estate has just re-released it on pink and green split dye color vinyl. Limited to 3000 copies, it contains nine songs -- “Anything That’s Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “You’re Gonna Get It,” "Breakdown,” “Too Much Ain’t Enough,” “Shout,” “I Fought the Law,” “(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66,” and “I’m a King Bee.” It was recorded on their You’re Gonna Get It! tour. Alan "Bugs" Weidel, Petty's assistant and equipment manager, says, “This glimpse of the past shows the power of the band and the acceptance of the band by the city leading to a great fan base there that only grew as we moved on to play both the old Boston Garden and also Fenway [Park] in the ensuing years. Bruce Springsteen's Philadelphia Concert Rescheduled Due To NHL And NBA Playoffs

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band are rescheduling one of their tour stops this week. Their May 8th concert at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia has been moved to pay 30th due to a scheduling conflict with NHL playoffs. The Philadelphia 76ers will take on the New York Knicks at the arena on May 8th and 10th. Springsteen's Philadelphia show will now be the final stop on the "Land of Hopes and Dreams American Tour."

DAVE GROHL: And He Danced

The Foo Fighters' new drummer, Ilan Rubin, welcomed a special guest backstage at their show Saturday at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey — his first drum teacher, David Uosikkinen. He introduced him to Dave Grohl, but what he failed to mention at that moment was that he's also the drummer in The Hooters. So, while on stage, Grohl told the audience that when he was around 16, he was inspired to buy a yellow drum kit, which was what Uosikkinen played in the video for The Hooter's 1985 hit "And We Danced." It was that yellow kit that Grohl played on Nirvana's Nevermind album. Grohl also cut a video for Ilan to send David apologizing for not knowing who he is, but also to thank him, saying, "If it wasn't for you and your awesome video, Nevermind would have sounded like [crap]." David saw the video and commented, saying, "I just love this guy and Ilan was absolutely burning it up, and the Foo Fighters were amazing. As I told Dave and Ilan, they are the most rockin’ band on the planet. So inspiring! ... This video blew my mind. I had no idea." The Foos will be back on stage Friday at the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida.

PETER GABRIEL: Fifth Full Moon, Fifth Song

Peter Gabriel has released "Won't Stand Down," the fifth song off his forthcoming album, o/i, in conjunction with the fifth full moon of the year -- the "flower moon." As for what it's about, he says, "The clue's in the title." "It's really a song encouraging some sort of activism. I had originally thought about trying to get some music for this Elders group that I helped bring into being. Their currency is not based on military, economic or political power, but just extraordinary lives. It's pretty dark out there in lots of places and I think we need people who can just nudge us a bit and bring some hope and start envisioning a world that is much better that what we are currently a part of." Gabriel goes on to say that "artists have traditionally always been able to try and help push people with smart ideas and views and visions of the future, and I think now that's really important. Gabriel will continue to release a song each month to coincide with the full moon, which is what he did for his last album, 2023’s i/o. The new album, o/i, will be released at the end of the year.

RUSH: What Would "The Professor" Think?

When Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson decided to tour again as Rush, they reached out to Neil Peart's widow, Carrie, to get her blessing. Last year, during a few interviews with Geddy about the reunion and upcoming tour, we asked him if she hadn't agreed, would they have moved forward, but he gracefully declined to discuss their conversation. But in a feature in The New York Times, Carrie broke her silence, talking about her husband's retirement in 2015, saying, “He was the one that was ready to retire, and they really were not... "He really did not enjoy being in the public eye and he was quite an introvert and it was hard on him touring.” Asked how he would feel about them touring without him, Carrie said she could imagine him asking, with good-natured exasperation, “Why? ... Or, ‘You guys are just nuts ... But in a loving way.”

In addition to her and their daughter Olivia's blessings, Carrie has written an essay for the tour program.

As for the band moving forward, Geddy says, "In the back of my mind and in the back of my heart, it’s felt like unfinished business, like we owed [Neil] a proper thank you and a celebration. Not a morbid, funereal type of thing. We want to celebrate the wonderful music the three of us spent almost 50 years writing together.” Even Peart's drum tech, Lorne Wheaton, better known as "Gump," came out of retirement to support new drummer Anika Nilles. Asked about the task she's undertaking, he said, "There’s certain signature songs that have got to have the same parts because there’s going to be those kids and adults and girls flailing their arms around and they’re going to have every note for note and they’re going to go, ‘Oh, that didn’t happen. What’s going on?’” Other noteworthy bits of information from the interview:

Rush will start their Fifty Something tour on June 7th at The Forum in Inglewood, California, which was where they did their last show on August 1st, 2015.

PAUL McCARTNEY: Arthur's Theme

Paul McCartney says in his spare time he likes to compile playlists. In the "You Gave Me the Answer" column on his website, McCartney says, “If we’re having a party and I want a dance list, I’ll make one. I’ve also done it with my grandson, Arthur (whose mom is his oldest biological daughter, Mary), which has been really nice. We sort of cobbled one together: a mix of old rock ’n’ roll favorites and some newer tracks. It turned out pretty good.” He adds that it starts with his late friend Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville,” and includes songs by Daft Punk

and Tame Impala, which are bands Arthur likes. Also includes are songs by The Kinks

(“Waterloo Sunset”), Donovan (“Sunny Goodge Street”), Dominic Fike’s version of “Kiss of Venus,” a song from 2020's McCartney III. And as for Arthur's taste in music, he says, “I’ll show him things I think will work, and then he adds to it, we’ve got a collaborative playlist. A friend of his who’s a painter even knocked up a little cover for it.” Granddad will release a new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, on May 29th, which he'll plug with a performance on the season finale of Saturday Night Live on May 16th. He's also rumored to be the guest on the final episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on May 21st.

Top Sellers For Record Store Day 2026 Revealed

Record Store Day was April 18th, and it saw over 350 exclusive releases sold through indie stores. Luminate tallied up the sales, and figured out who were the top sellers across albums and singles. Pink Floyd’s “Live From the Los Angeles Sports Arena, April 26th, 1975” topped album sales, while Taylor Swift scored the top-selling single with “Elizabeth Taylor” on a collectible glitter vinyl. “KPop Demon Hunters” ended up getting both the third spot and the sixth spot on the album’s chart, featuring a HUNTR/X edition and a Saja Boys edition, respectively. STEVEN TYLER: Judge Draws the Line

Steven Tyler is breathing a small sigh of relief in the sexual assault lawsuit filed against him in 2022 by Julia Misley, who claimed that he began assaulting her in 1973 when she was 16 after he convinced her parents to grant him guardianship so they could travel across state lines without criminal prosecution. Tyler has denied her allegations. This past Tuesday, it was ruled that the claims of sexual assaults in states outside of California cannot be tried in that state.

David Long-Daniels, Tyler's lawyer, says, "This is a massive win for Steven Tyler. The court has dismissed, with prejudice, 99.9% of the claims against Mr. Tyler in this case. The court has decided that only one night, 50-plus years ago out of a three-year relationship is allowed to remain. We look forward to trying this case on August 31st.” Julia filed her lawsuit in the final days of California’s Child Victims Act, a 2019 law that temporarily lifted the statute of limitations and gave survivors of childhood sexual abuse a three-year window to bring claims.

So, the trial is now scheduled to begin on August 31st at Los Angeles County Superior Court, but Tyler did himself no favors by writing about his relationship with Julia in the 1997

Jason Newsted Gives Health Update On Cancer Battle

Jason Newsted, former bassist for Voivod, Flotsam & Jetsam and (most notably) Metallica, is giving fans an update in his battle with cancer. On an upcoming episode of the "Let There Be Talk" podcast, Newsted revealed that he's been fighting throat cancer for a year. "So, let's see; in one week, it's gonna be a year. So one week from today, it'll be a year. May 8th of 2025, I underwent a procedure for throat cancer. And so they took a bunch of [ ] outta here and then they went in with lasers this way and took a bunch of [ ] out. So the cavern inside my head is different than it was, but we got it early. And I got my 'free and clear' about three weeks ago. So I beat it." Newsted is feeling well enough that his "The Chophouse Band" is embarking on a US tour July 1.

Alex Ligertwood, Former Vocalist For Santana, Passes

Alex Ligertwood, the former lead vocalist for Santana who featured on hits like "Winning," "Hold On" and more, has passed. His wife, Shaun Brogan, confirmed that the singer died at his home in Santa Monica, California, last Thursday. "It’s with great sadness and heartache to announce the passing of my sweet dear Alex Ligertwood, my husband of 25 years, we knew each other for 36 years,” Brogan wrote on Facebook. "Alex passed peacefully in his sleep with his doggy Bobo by his side yesterday." Ligertwood joined Santana in time to record 1979's "Marathon," intermittently playing with the band through 1994, including the band's appearances at the "Us Festival" and "Live Aid." Ligertwood was 79.

Due to the NBA and NHL playoff schedules, Bruce Springsteen’s show this Friday at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia has been rescheduled for May 30th. All tickets for the previous date will remain valid for the new date. This now makes it the final show on the Land of Hope and Dreams - No Kings tour following the original closing night, May 27th at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., the only stadium and outdoor show on the tour. Next up is Elmont, New York on Tuesday.

Not restricted by the production of the Sphere in Las Vegas, the Eagles changed up their set list Saturday for their performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Don Henley

acknowledged it, saying, “This is very different from the Sphere. We got some sunshine up here.” Instead of opening with “Hotel California,” which is what they did at the Sphere, they went back to their previous show opener, “Seven Bridges Road.” And, because they’re one of many acts on the bill, they cut their set from 21 at the Sphere to 19, dropping “Desperado” and Henley’s “The End of the Innocence.” Up next is Tuesday in Atlanta.

Bruce Dickinson says he could see Iron Maiden's Eddfest, scheduled for Knebworth Park outside London on July 10th and 11th, "become a festival that didn’t have Iron Maiden in it. Just bands in the same spirit."
