In the History of Rock in 1961 – The Beatles, with a lineup of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, bass player Stuart Sutcliffe and drummer Pete Best, play the Cavern Club in Liverpool for the first time. They earned 5 Pounds for the lunchtime gig. The band would become regulars at the venue, and ended up doing 291 more shows.
In 1964 – The Beatles made their US live debut on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’. They performed five songs including their current number 1 ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’. Never before had so many viewers tuned-in to a live television program, which with 73 million viewers, was three-fourths of the total adult audience in the United States. The show had received over 50,000 applications for the 728 seats in the TV studio.
And in 2012 – Paul McCartney finally got his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, becoming the last of the four Beatles to get the honor. His star was placed outside the Capitol Records building, alongside those of band members John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
