Johnny Depp could be headed back to court. He and Jeff Beck have been accused of stealing lyrics from an incarcerated man on their new album, 18. The lyrics to the duo’s new song were allegedly lifted from a poem called “Hobo Ben,” delivered by the late Slim Wilson, a gambler, pimp, robber and murderer, while he was doing time at Missouri State Penitentiary and was featured in a 1974 book. Several of the lines from the poem appear verbatim the new song.
In the History of Rock in 1978 – The Rolling Stones saw their only Disco-style effort, “Miss You”, become their eighth number one single in the US. The lyrics were inspired by Mick Jagger’s deteriorating relationship with his wife, Bianca.
In 1983 – David Crosby, who slept through most of his trial, was sentenced to eight years in prison for cocaine and firearms offences. He was paroled in 1986.
And in 1984 – Bruce Springsteen played the first of ten nights at the Meadowlands to mark the homecoming of the Born in the USA Tour.
