Major Surgery For Ozzy, And A New Hip For Elton John: Classic Rock Update

Sharon Osbourne broke the news that Ozzy will soon undergo major surgery to correct issues with his neck and spine. The surgery will hopefully aid in Ozzy’s recovery from a 2019 fall which displaced metal rods in his body.

And a new hip for Elton. Elton John announced the postponement of more Farewell Yellow Brick Road shows after he suffered a hip injury requiring surgery. The run of final tour dates across the U.K. and Europe, which had already been rescheduled, has been moved to 2023 to allow him time to recover. The North American dates booked for 2022 will remain in place.

In the History of Rock in 1959 – The first package tour organized by Dick Clark and veteran Rock 'n' Roll promoter Irvin Feld kicks off. It was a 52-day run with Paul Anka, Lloyd Price, The Coasters, Duane Eddy, The Drifters, Annette Funicello and LaVern Baker.

In 1970 – England's Rock and Roll magazine, Melody Maker named Led Zeppelin as England's "Best Group", replacing The Beatles, who had held that honor for eight years. Melody Maker stopped publication in December 2000 after 73 years of print.

And in 2004 – Green Day unveil their new rock opera, American Idiot, on the first date of their national tour in Hollywood.
