Sarah's Beer of the Week 01.16.20

My husband Matt has more beer self control than I do. The concept of cellaring a beer is lost on me. But many do. I buy beer, I drink the beer. Matt has been cellaring a Barleywine for ages. Firestone Walker Helldorado from 2016. It's not an old beer, it's a vintage beer. It's supposed to get better with age. I don't drink a much barley wine because the ABV is insane. This brew is 11.8%. But it's winter, and it's cold, and this is the perfect style to cozy up to the fire with. Pour it in a snifter, and sip. Honey flavors, caramel, sweet and light carbonation. It's a sipper, and a savor-er. A nice after dinner drink. If you're looking to try something different, something that isn't very beer-y, try a barley wine. The 2016 is hard to find, but they make a new one each year. Firestone Walker is one of the best, and non of their styles will disappoint.
