Sarah's Beer of the Week 06.27.19

Ever play the game 'if you could only have one food for the rest of your life what would it be? For Matt, my husband, it would be noodles. Not Italian...any Asian noodle dish. We've made several trips to Asia for the history and landscape...but I'm pretty sure it was really just for the food. He spotted a very unique beer recently, one he knew would pair perfectly with his Korean Soft Tofu Soup, Pho or Thai Boat Noodles. Seoul Brothers from Alementary Brewing Co. This beer is a collaboration between a New Jersey Brewery and a Korean BBQ restaurant. Alementary Brewing Co and the chef from Kimchi Smoke.

I love their description:  The combination of Southern Korean BBQ and craft beer was a natural pairing and now, we have a beer that is what Kimchi Smoke is all about – not fusion, but 100% Korean and 100% American. The final product is reminiscent of makgeolli, a traditional Korean rice wine, while maintaining all the properties of being a beer. They are calling the brew’s style a Blonde Rice Ale, it’s ABV is 7.5%.

This is a very unique beer. Reminiscent of a sour, but without the pucker. Soft edges, nothing bitter. Is beery, but yet not. Seems a bit fruit forward. Hard to pinpoint, but I'd say pear. It was refreshing; the taste and in the sense that it is something completely new. I've seen many brewery collaborations in the Seattle area, but I'd love to see more chef/brewer collabs. Anyone see any cool ones? Let me know!
