The weather this week has been fantastic. Warm, but not hot. Sunny but not scorching. Finding the right beer for this time of year is a (fun) task. Not quite hot enough for Corona, but not cool enough for a Brown or IPA. In steps the beer Negra Modela. This beer style is 'Munich Dunkel Lager'. It's a Mexican beer that has been around for almost 100 years. To me, it's the perfect style for warm weather, but not hot. It's refreshing but still has enough flavor and body. So many people think of Mexican beer, and they think of light lagers. Mexico brews some great Vienna Lager, and these German dunkels as well. They are a more malt forward, which you won't find in a Sol or Tecate. There is nice flavor, and yet it's not filling. These beers tend to pour very dark, but don't let that scare you. They are not heavy! I love the taste of Negra Modela, and the price is right as well. You'll get great flavor without busting the bank. Felicidades mi amigos!
