The fine folks at Elysian Brewing Company invited me in for a new beer-tail they created. A beer cocktail! This is something they designed specially for Valentines Day. The creator, Tyson, was on hand to hand make this concoction for me. It's called Bitter Split, and it uses Elysians Split Shot Espresso Milk Stout. There is a lot of bitters in this drink, which surprised me. Other ingredients include almond Orgeat, and blackberry liquor. You've got to see the pictures, as Tyler creates this beer-tail with a lot of panache. Many of you readers of my blog know I am all about beer, and not into much that is fruity or sweet. I was skeptical about a cocktail made with beer. I was quite pleasantly surprised to find this drink delicious! It wasn't overly sweet, but not bitter and not harsh. Very smooth, decadent and delightful. There is indeed something about it that seems very Valentine's Day, and very winter. I've had the Split Shot beer before and it's fantastic. I'd definitely recommend trying it out of the bottle, or if you're feeling adventurous, try the Bitter Split at an Elysian location. Sometimes it's nice to step out of my IPA box. You never know what you might find!
