This week I decided to check out Optimism Brewing Company in Capitol Hill. For starters, I wasn't expecting it to be so big (technically a 'that's what she said' joke does fit here). The room is large, huge ceilings, tons of seats and even a play area for toddlers. I also wasn't expecting such a wide variety of beers. Lastly, I wasn't expecting a 'no cash and no tipping' business. All of these were pleasant surprises, as was the beer. I opted for the Moxee, a PNW IPA. They do offer samplers, but sometimes a girl just wants what she wants. And for me that's a nice hoppy IPA. Moxee had all the right things going on. Hoppy, flavorful, pine (but not like sucking a conifer), and good body. Nice level of carbonation, and 5.9% ABV. Very delightful brew. I was meeting some friends for dinner, or I'd like to have tried some other styles. I'll be back, and I'd suggest checking it out for yourself.
