I read about a new beer hall opening in Ballard, immediately headed up there to check it out. It's Viking themed and called Skall Beer Hall. The décor is very cool, lots of dark wood, sturdy tables, weapons and animals on the wall. The idea is similar to a German beer hall, but with a Scandinavian twist. And a delightful amount of beer. I had a beer called Doug the Dark from Ferment Brewing Company. It's a Cascadian Dark Ale. One of my all time favorite styles. 6.6% ABV, so I felt I could have two without starting to wildly shout quotes from the tv show Vikings on History. Outstanding beer, and I can't wait to find more of Ferment's beers. If you like dark beer with hops, you will LOVE this one. Time for a trip to OR to check them out.
