Sarah's Beer of the Week 05.04.2023

My friends over at Merchant du Vin noticed I hadn't been covering any Trappist beers for my blog, and thought it was time to change that. They sent over some beers for me to try, and I couldn't have been more pleased! I admit, it's been quite a while since I enjoyed one. I decided to start with Zundert 8. When I think of Trappist beer, I always think of Belgium. Turns out, this one is out of The Netherlands. There are only two Dutch Trappist breweries. This one is a rich copper color, medium carbonation and sneaky smooth. I would have thought an 8% might be more sharp. What I loved about this beer is the spice. Notes of clove that is reminiscent of German wheats. Really good stuff here. The flavors only opened up the more it warmed up. Although the beer didn't last long enough to get to full room temp.  Merchant du Vin are specialty beer importers, based out of Tacoma and I can't wait to try more of the beers they are sharing here in the US!   Don't forget about all the amazing beers out there, like the Trappist ones! Check your local store for these types of fun imports. Those Trappist monks really know what they're doing. Cheers!
