A beer I call an 'old standby' is Full Sail Amber. Full Sail Brewing, out of Oregon has been brewing since 1987. They brew on the Columbia River, a spot once known for windsurfing, and now kite surfing. When I lived on the East Coast, my brother, an avid windsurfer spent a week at the Gorge and raved about the beer. And the whole scene. Now that I'm living in the PNW I'm able to drink their beers whenever I want! Full Sail Brewing makes a nice range of beers, but the one that always calls to me is their amber. It's always perfect. Not too malty, and def not sweet. All the best parts of an Amber, without those two angles that can kill an amber for me. Unlike my bro, I have hung up my sail, but should make the trek down there for a visit to drink more of their beers!
