One of my beer pals gave me a beer that he said would 'melt your face off'. He meant in a good way. And he was right. Scary Joy from Skookum Brewery in Arlington WA is a BIG BOY. In flavor and ABV. Skookum Brewery says their beers are 'always big, bold and strong'. A true statement. Scary Joy is a bourbon barrel aged brown ale, with coconut and vanilla. This isn't a basic brown. Oh no. This is a bourbon flavor bomb. It looked a little thin when I first poured it. Nothing thin about this beer. It's rich and deep. The bourbon is very forward with hints of vanilla and a coconut finish. This is not a beer for people who want something soft and mellow. Tons of flavor. And this beer isn't for a lightweight. 11% ABV! Matt and I split it, and drank out of tulip glasses. You'll enjoy this on a cold winter night.
