Britain’s Royal Mail is celebrating Iron Maiden with their very own set of postage stamps. Due out next week, the stamps depict the British heavy metal legends over the decades and a separate sheet of the band’s mascot Eddie.
In the History of Rock in 1954 – Four days before his 20th birthday, a young truck driver named Elvis Presley paid $4 to record a ten-inch demo at the Memphis Recording Service. The two songs Presley were impressive, and Elvis was invited back to first professional record for Sun Records.
In 1975 – Elton John started a two-week run at number 1 on the US singles chart with his version of The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’. It was his third number 1, and featured John Lennon on guitar.
And in 2001 – Madame Tussaud’s waxworks in London revealed that Oasis singer Liam Gallagher had come third in ‘The Most Hated Characters’ list of exhibits, behind Adolf Hitler and Slobodan Milosevic.
