The 90’s alt-rock festival Flannel Nation, set to be held this weekend, has now been cancelled. The lineup was supposed to feature Everclear, Candlebox, Filter, Soul Asylum, Sugar Ray and more. Everclear had cancelled their participation last week due to logistics issues with the venue, then a venue change was announced, then Candelbox and Filter withdrew from the festival. Organizers hope to reschedule the event at a later date.
In the History of Rock in 1970 – Jim Morrison’s trial for allegedly exposing himself onstage in Miami begins. He would later be found guilty and sentenced to six months of hard labor, jail time he would never serve.
In 1972 – During their Wings Over Europe Tour, Paul and Linda McCartney were arrested in Sweden for possession of drugs. McCartney joked the arrest would “make good publicity” for the tour.
And in 1976 – Elton John played the first of seven sold out shows at Madison Square Garden in New York. The concerts generated 1.25 million dollars, breaking the record for ticket revenue set by The Rolling Stones a year before.
