The Who’s Pete Townshend blasted a fan for screaming out a song request during their set in Tampa. Townshend then asked Roger Daltrey what song he wanted to play, only for the singer to agree with the fan and have Townshend humorously be forced to walk it back.
In the History of Rock in 1962 – After an unsuccessful audition for Decca Records, The Beatles perform for producer George Martin at EMI Records. Martin was later quoted as saying “They were pretty awful. I understand why other record companies turned them down,” but he still signed them to a contract. They recorded four tracks, one of which was ‘Love Me Do’. The four musicians received just over twelve dollars each for their efforts.
In 1965 – The Rolling Stones released the single ‘Satisfaction’ in the US, which went on to give the band their first number 1. In the UK the song initially played only on pirate radio stations because its lyrics were considered too sexually suggestive.
And in 1969 – Rod Stewart, lead singer of the Jeff Beck Group, signs a solo recording contract with Mercury Records.
