Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Guitar Is Up For Auction & Rock History

The guitar Kurt Cobain played in Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video is headed to auction next month. A conservative starting estimate of Cobain’s 1969 Fender Mustang left-handed guitar in Competition Lake Placid blue finish with matching headstock is $600,000 - $800,000.

In the History of Rock in 1966 – Two dozen local groups appeared at a ‘battle of the bands’ in New Jersey. Each act performed three songs. The Rogues won first place, second was Sonny & The Starfires, and third place was… Bruce Springsteen.

In 1969 – The Who give their first complete live performance of the Rock opera Tommy. 24 years later, it would end up on Broadway.

And in 1991 – The Dave Matthews Band played their first ever-live show when they appeared at The Earth Day Festival in Charlottesville, Virginia.
