8-17-21 Classic Rock Update

Journey have announced they will perform a six-date residency at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The dates run through the first part of December. Even though it's not currently on a full-scale tour, the band has performed a handful of other recent shows. Last month, they played an intimate club concert at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom — their first live performance since New Years Eve 2019. Not long after that show, Journey headlined at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival.

Journey are scheduled to perform a few more shows this summer before the residency takes place, including back-to-back appearances in New York City this weekend. They'll first play at a homecoming concert in Central Park alongside acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon and Elvis Costello, and then at Jones Beach, where other performers include Ann Wilson and John Fogerty. Journey will also perform in Las Vegas for the iHeartRadio Music Festival.

You could be the next bass player for Steel Panther. The hair metal heroes are holding open auditions to find someone sexy enough to join the pack. It was revealed earlier this year that Lexxi Foxx had stepped down from Steel Panther, greatly diminishing the overall sexiness of the group. “Steel Panther will continue to rock the world,” the band said following Foxx’s departure. “And though we may not ever find a bassist quite as beautiful as Lexxi, it shouldn’t be hard to find one to match his towering intellect. Good Luck… And goodbye Lexxi Foxx!!” With the end of an era comes a new beginning. As the touring industry continues to restart, Steel Panther must adapt or go extinct. To fill the gaping hole left by Lexxi, the Panther are looking toward their legions of fans.

Steel Panther have asked potential bassists to follow these three instructions:

1. Be bitchin

2. Upload a video of you playing any Steel Panther song titled "yourname_songname" here.

3. Upload a video of you introducing yourself to Steel Panther explaining why you should be our bassist titled "yourname_introduction" here.

That’s all you have to do! Bust out those cameras and audition to become the next member of Steel Panther.

In the History of Rock in 1960 – The Beatles perform for the first time using the name, the Beatles. They appear at the Indra Club in Hamburg, West Germany, where they play for four and half hours a night and six hours on the weekend, during a 48-night stay. The owner, Bruno Koschmider, asked The Beatles to "Mach Shau", or really put on a show, which led to the band screaming, shouting, and leaping about the stage and sometimes playing lying on the floor. John Lennon once appeared wearing only his underwear and, on another occasion, wearing a toilet seat around his neck. The Beatles lodged in a single room behind the screen of a nearby movie house.

In 1977 – The day after Elvis Presley's death, President Jimmy Carter issues the following statement, "Elvis Presley's death deprives our country of a part of itself. He was unique and irreplaceable. More than twenty years ago he burst upon the scene with an impact that was unprecedented and will probably never be equaled. His music and his personality, fusing the styles of White country and Black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. His following was immense, and he was a symbol to people the world over, of the vitality, rebelliousness and good humor of his country."

Florists Transworld Delivery (FTD) reports that in one day, the number of orders for flowers to be delivered to Graceland has surpassed the number for any other event in the company's history. Tens of thousands of fans travel to Memphis to pay tribute to The King.

And in 1991 – Nirvana filmed the music video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in Culver City, CA. The video costs less than $50,000 to make & led MTV to favor alternative bands in place of pop-metal bands. The shoot features real Nirvana fans as the audience. The video won Nirvana the Best New Artist and Best Alternative Group awards at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards, and in 2000 the Guinness World Records named ‘Teen Spirit’ the Most Played Video on MTV.
