8-2-21 Classic Rock Update

Late ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill recorded bass and vocal tracks for a new ZZ Top album in the months leading up to his death, according to Billy Gibbons. The frontman recently said Dusty had delivered some lead vocal performances for ZZ Top’s next album, which will mark their first studio effort since 2012’s La Futura. Gibbons admitted it will “require some completion work” to incorporate Hill’s vocal tracks into the finished LP, but the band has “got a couple of things with Dusty singing lead that’ll make sense.”

The previously unnamed official Led Zeppelin documentary will be called "Becoming Led Zeppelin". Directed by Bernard MacMahon, the film documents the legendary rockers' "meteoric rise to stardom". The filmmaker said in a press release: "'Becoming Led Zeppelin' is a film that no one thought could be made. The band's meteoric rise to stardom was swift and virtually undocumented. Through an intense search across the globe and years of restoration of the visual and audio archive found, this story is finally able to be told."

"Becoming Led Zeppelin" will feature new interviews with guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant and bassist John Paul Jones, as well as rare archival interviews with the late drummer John Bonham. It marks the first-time members of Led Zeppelin have participated in a documentary about the group. A release date for "Becoming Led Zeppelin" has not yet been announced.

Late Rush Drummer Neil Peart’s classic sports car collection is headed to auction. Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, recently announced its offering of the world-renowned rock drummer and lyricist Neil Peart's collection of classic cars at its 17th annual Pebble Beach Auctions. The opportunity to bid on these extraordinary classic cars, dubbed the "Silver Surfers" by the legendary musician, will take place at the company's two-day sale on August 13 and 14, 2021.

In the History of Rock: In 1962 – Robert Allen Zimmerman legally became Bob Dylan having signed a music publishing deal with Witmark Music.

“The Elston Gunn name thing was only temporary,” he mentions in his book Chronicles. “What I was going to do as soon as I left home was just called myself Robert Allen. As far as I was concerned, that was who I was – that’s what my parents named me. It sounded like the name of a Scottish king, and I liked it. There was little of my identity that wasn’t in it.”

Dylan has been evasive about the reasoning for his multiple and final name changes. It’s possible that we’ll never know the true story. We’ll just enjoy his music and insightful lyrics.

In 1968 – The Doors started a two-week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Hello I Love You’, the group’s second US No.1. The Doors scored 8 top 40 US hits from 1967-1971.

In 1986 - Chicago's former bassist Peter Cetera reached the top of the Billboard Pop chart with his first solo effort, "Glory Of Love". The song, featured in the film The Karate Kid II.

In 2007 – Prince kicked off a series of 21 sold out UK shows at London’s O2 arena. Tickets for the events cost £31.21 – the same figure used by the singer to name his album, website and perfume.
