Amazon announced on a conference call with analysts on Thursday that it was investing $800 million in the 2nd quarter of 2019 toward making one-day shipping the standard shipping for Amazon Prime.

"Our goal is to evolve the two-day free shipping program into the one-day free shipping program, and we're making strides on that," Brian Olsavsky, Amazon's CFO said. "We feel like we are doing something very important for the customer."

About a year ago, Amazon raised the price for Prime memberships from $99 to $119 per year. They have more than 100 million subscribers now.

CEO Jeff Bezos stated that he wanted Prime to be such a great deal that it would be "irresponsible not to be a member."

Amazon already offers one-day shipping on many items, at an increased cost. This new plan would make one-day shipping the new standard.
