Two men in Arkansas were arrested after police say they got drunk and decided to test out a bulletproof vest on each other. Charles Eugene Ferris arrived at the hospital complaining of chest pain after being shot and told authorities an elaborate cover story about what happened.
Ferris claimed that he was shot while protecting an "asset" who paid him $200. He told a police officer that he followed the person into the woods where they met a third man who opened fire on them. He explained to investigators that he was shot six times but managed to return fire before fleeing in a car with the man he was paid to protect.
A short while later, Ferris' wife showed up at the hospital and set the record straight. She told investigators that Ferris and his friend, Christopher Hicks, got drunk and took turns shooting each other while wearing a bulletproof vest.
Ferris recanted his story and told police that he made it up to prevent Hicks from getting in trouble.
Ferris and Hicks were both arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a class D felony. They are facing up to six years behind bars.
